For those moving for the first time, we have got the best tips for you. Prepare, prepare, prepare. There is simply no such thing as overpreparing when it comes to moving. Fortunately, we have prepared a moving checklist to simplify the process.
When you want to start preparing, it is up to you, but the best advice is to start at least 8 weeks before the big day. This is because it will get too stressful and overwhelming if you don’t give yourself enough time. This timeline will help you organize your time more efficiently, prioritize tasks, and track your progress in a realistic manner.
Utilizing Your Moving Checklist
So, you have two months before you move. Here are the top things you should get done:
- Create an inventory of your possessions – this sounds tedious, but it will be a lifesaver once you officially move. This isn’t just about keeping track of what you have; it will also help you identify what you want to sell, give, or get rid of.
- Measure your new home – If you already have the new place secured early on, make sure to measure all the necessary spots as early as possible. You wouldn’t want to bring your old sofa but find out it doesn’t fit in the new home. Things like this are easily overlooked, so this should also help you identify what you will keep or not. It will also help you if you are looking to buy new furniture or appliances.
- Research how you want to move your things – You can hire a moving company or do it on your own. If you are hiring a company, it would be good to find the best ones and identify if you want them to pack up all your things. Some do the packing and just have the movers pick them up, so it depends on what you are most comfortable with.
